Bike theft is a major barrier to micromobility in urban areas, discouraging commuters from choosing bicycles as a reliable transportation option. Without secure infrastructure, cities continue to prioritize cars over sustainable alternatives, making it harder for urban planners to transition toward pedestrian- and bike-friendly environments.

Over five weeks, I developed KYCS, a bike security solution that repurposed the existing docking technology used in bike-share programs (like CapMetro’s communal bike system in Austin) to protect individuals' bikes. By shifting security from individual locks to the bike rack itself, KYCS aimed to make urban biking more reliable and accessible. The goal was to encourage more people to choose cycling over driving and push city planners toward city designs that prioritize pedestrians and micromobility over cars.

My concept was successfully pitched at the KSWELI Rocket Pitch competition, demonstrating how rethinking bike security can help cities embrace micromobility. KYCS was more than just a theft-prevention solution—it was a blueprint for urban transformation, showing how infrastructure innovation can encourage sustainable commuting and reduce car dependency.
