Amazon generates millions of pounds of packaging waste annually, creating a disconnect between its sustainability commitments and operational realities. With Gen Z and Millennials demanding more eco-friendly solutions, Amazon risked damaging its brand reputation and losing consumer trust if it failed to act on sustainability concerns.
My team and I developed Return to Earn, a packaging recycling program that incentivizes Amazon Prime members to return used boxes in exchange for Prime Bucks. By leveraging Amazon’s existing locker infrastructure, we designed a scalable system where customers could drop off packaging at designated locations, ensuring responsible recycling while creating a seamless and rewarding customer experience. Our go-to-market strategy combined digital promotions, influencer partnerships, and in-app engagement tools to drive adoption and long-term participation.
Our proposal provided Amazon with a financially viable, brand-strengthening sustainability initiative, positioning the company as a leader in circular logistics. By aligning customer rewards with eco-conscious values, Return to Earn has the potential to increase Prime membership conversions, drive customer loyalty, and create a lasting environmental impact without sacrificing Amazon’s reputation for innovation and convenience.
