Longhorn's Don't Litter
Project Type
Marketing & PR
Date
December 2023
Location
Austin, TX
The Longhorns Don’t Litter (LDL) campaign, aimed at protecting Waller Creek (UT’s local watershed), lacked widespread student awareness and long-term sustainability as an organization. While a previous group had laid the foundation, LDL was now ready for stronger branding, student involvement, and structured resources to ensure its impact continued beyond a single semester.
For LDL, I played a key role in expanding student engagement and structuring the club's long-term success. As Head of PR, I oversaw newsletter quality assurance, event planning, and collaboration with EHS to enhance LDL’s presence on campus with a team of 15 other students. I planned and executed UT Marketplace, one of the campaign’s biggest tabling events, which attracted over 300 students and boosted LDL’s Instagram following by 300. I also created the LDL Toolkit, an 80-page resource that provides a framework for future students to maintain LDL’s brand, organizational structure, and partnership with UT’s Environmental Health & Safety (EHS).
Mine and my team's efforts helped LDL become an official student organization, allowing us to have long-term resources and institutional support. With the LDL Toolkit, we ensured club continuity, giving future leaders a roadmap to grow the initiative. Through tabling events, social media strategy, and hands-on environmental actions like creek cleanups and drain labeling, LDL significantly increased student awareness and engagement—reaching 749 Instagram followers, 406 newsletter subscribers, and removing over 50 pounds of litter from Waller Creek.
